UUID Generator

Runs in Browser

Generate random v4 UUIDs and GUIDs in bulk with custom casing, hyphens, and braces.

How to Use the UUID Generator

1

Choose how many UUIDs you wish to generate (from 1 to 50 using quick chips, or custom count).

2

Toggle formatting switches such as UPPERCASE, Hyphens (-), or Enclose in Braces {}.

3

Inspect the generated list of cryptographically secure UUID version 4 strings.

4

Click Copy next to any individual UUID, or click Copy All UUIDs to copy the complete list.

Understanding UUID Generator

A Universally Unique Identifier (UUID), also frequently referred to as a Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) in Microsoft ecosystems, is a 128-bit label used for identifying information in computer systems. Standardized under RFC 4122, UUIDs enable distributed systems to uniquely identify records, transactions, database rows, sessions, and files without coordinating with a central registration authority. Version 4 UUIDs are the most common variant, relying on cryptographic pseudo-randomness. A standard v4 UUID contains 32 hexadecimal characters grouped into five segments separated by hyphens (8-4-4-4-12 format), representing 122 bits of true randomness. The total pool of possible UUIDs is 2^122 (approximately 5.3 x 10^36), rendering the probability of generating a duplicate astronomically negligible. Even if a system generated one billion UUIDs every single second for a century, the chance of a single collision remains effectively zero. Our UUID Generator is built using the browser-native Web Cryptography API (crypto.randomUUID). Unlike older utilities that relied on Math.random()—which produces predictable pseudo-random seeds vulnerable to collision attacks—our generator leverages operating system hardware entropy. Key capabilities include: 1. **Bulk Batch Generation:** Instantly generate up to 1,000 UUIDs in milliseconds for database seeders, test fixtures, and mock datasets. 2. **Flexible Formatting:** Toggle uppercase hexadecimal output, strip hyphens for compact storage in MongoDB or UUID hex columns, or wrap in curly braces for C# and Windows registry formats. 3. **One-Click Clipboard Operations:** Copy individual IDs or export the entire list formatted with clean line breaks. 4. **Complete Client-Side Security:** Zero network requests are made. Identifiers are created inside temporary browser memory and never logged to external servers.
